Mark D. Faries, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor within the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science at Stephen F. Austin State University, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor within the College of Medicine and Department of Health and Kinesiology at Texas A&M University. Dr. Faries’ research focus is primarily in the self-regulation of lifestyle behaviors, including exercise, physical activity, healthy eating, and weight control. More specifically, this research seeks to move beyond current perspectives to elucidate why and how people initiate and maintain health behaviors. Dr. Faries is an expert contributor on Vidoyen.com, and is founder of FitnessPudding.com – a site dedicated to debunking common health and fitness myths. Dr. Faries is dedicated to efforts to help steer medical practice, medical education, and the fitness industry in line with lifestyle medicine. Dr. Faries serves on the Board of Directors of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and is developing medical curriculum in lifestyle medicine for Texas A&M College of Medicine and St. George’s University Medical School, alongside continuing medical education in understanding patient behavior change.
